Very chic: French Renaissance in Greater Poland

Posadowo (also known as Schloss Herrmanstal) is located between Frankfurt(Oder) and Poznan and is easy to reach via the A2 (Nowy Tomyśl exit). Although there is a remarkable castle and park there, the small community is little known. The French Renaissance hint of the manor, built around 1870 for Władysław Łącki, are unmistakable. Łącki was a member of the Prussian Parliament and received the title of count in 1892 by Wilhem I of Hohenzollern.

The manor house is a richly decorated, one or two-story building with a developed attic on a rectangular ground plan and four corner towers of different shapes. It is probably one of the most beautiful examples of this type in Wielkopolska. The exceptional interior architecture has been preserved to this day, including the paneled hall with ornately carved oak staircase and salons decorated with classicist stucco, pilasters and Corinthian columns.

The heart of the building is the former armory, an oval hall richly decorated with coats of arms and stucco applications, with a gallery and skylight, extending over two floors. Here there was also a collection of paintings with portraits of Polish personalities. Even today the empty hall is beautiful to look at. On the east facade there is a stately loggia with a terrace extending over two floors.

The garden was also built according to the French model in the form of an elongated rectangle and is closed at the end by a small pond. Together with the adjacent park to the west, it covers a total area of about 10 hectares. It is richly planted and decorated; various sculptures and vases have been preserved to this day.

After 1945, the nationalized area served as a horse stud farm and is today again the private property of the descendant family. The castle and park are not open to visitors; permission to enter must be obtained on site.
